The Artists Retreat Apartment
Please Note: This property is a family friendly property and is not suitable for hen and stag parties. It is a unique property that doubles up as the artists gallery with all the paintings for sale.
Tucked away on a peaceful street in Brighton’s fashionable Kemp Town, this stylish basement apartment sleeps four and is just one minutes walk from the beach and 10 minutes walk to The Lanes. It oozes Brighton style with the owner’s beautiful artworks adorning the walls and it is dressed in cool, comfortable furnishings to complement the creative aesthetic, creating a homely yet luxurious space to stay during your time in the city.
Expertly renovated, the apartment is immaculate and ready to host up to four people in two beds (king & double sofa bed). It is formed from the entire lower ground floor of a classic Victorian townhouse, so it has its own street entrance which adds to the feeling of privacy, and it is naturally quiet.
Stepping inside, it feels immediately warm and welcoming – a home from home. The ceilings are high throughout with the main bedroom sitting to the front of the property. This is a generous double room with a tall, double glazed sash window dressed in white plantation shutters which bring both style and function to the space. These allow for complete darkness during weekend lie-ins, or for the easterly morning light to filter in and gently wake you. While the room is already private due to its lower position in the building, the shutters also ensure complete privacy from the street.
The king-size bed has a luxury hybrid mattress with cooling gel layers to ensure a truly restful night’s sleep while fine quality bed linens and throws add individual colour and style to the room. A deep walk-in wardrobe has space for hanging clothes, sorting shoes and hiding your suitcases away, and the deep-pile carpet is soft underfoot.
For relaxation and dining, the living room is spacious with a sumptuous corner sofa in divine bottle green velvet which opens to create a double sofa bed with a gel mattress topper for added comfort if required. Kick back and relax in front of the Smart HD flat screen to enjoy a show on Netflix, listen to music or browse the net for ‘what’s on in Brighton?’, using the super-fast complimentary WiFi.
While you will be tempted to eat out during your stay, we have provided everything you need to cook a tasty meal right here. There is a dining table and chairs by the window looking out to the courtyard patio which is covered for protection during inclement weather. The kitchen offers contemporary storage, a fridge with freezer top-box, an integrated electric oven with an induction hob, and a microwave – so there are plenty of options. There is also a good range of cutlery, cooking utensils, glassware and crockery, plus an Italian coffee pot and milk frother to perk you up in the morning. Tea, coffee and milk will also be provided, but should you need anything in particular, please ask and we will make every effort to accommodate.
Beautifully styled and with ample space for two, the wet-room rainfall shower is well-lit and tiled in natural stone mosaic. While getting ready for a night out or a day in the city, there is a large wall mounted mirror and plenty of shelving space for cosmetics so two can beautify at once. Toiletries and fresh towels are provided, as are a hairdryer, an iron and an ironing board which are located in the utility room in the hall – which comes complete with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Kemp Town is unique, with its own vibrant energy, even being ranked 26th on Time Out’s list of the coolest neighbourhoods! This apartment is a mere stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of St George’s Road and St James’ Street where you’ll find a cool cafe culture, several foodie pubs & artisan restaurants, and every amenity you could wish for.
While you are incredibly central here; within walking distance of Brighton City Centre and all its delights, it is surprisingly peaceful too. After a long day sightseeing, a night out partying, or a tiring business trip, you have a real haven to come home to.
Amenities
Location
Kemp Town is renowned for its creative, colourful and friendly community spirit. It has a central road lined with every type of eatery you can imagine; serving exquisite food from around the globe, to suit all tastes and budgets. There are bars and traditional pubs - all vying for the best Sunday Roast, and during summer you may well come across a street party or carnival to enjoy.
Independent and artisan shops are a plenty; from delicatessens, organic butchers and bakeries, to antique emporiums and gift shops, so you have plenty to explore in your immediate environment, yet Brighton’s bright and beautiful city centre is also just a 10- minute stroll along the promenade. Here you will find Brighton Pier, night clubs, theatres, and the cultural North Laine Shopping District. If you don’t fancy the walk there are several busses which take you into the city, or along the coast and beyond to the rolling hills of The South Downs National Park.
Just five minutes to the east is Brighton Marina where you can stroll the boardwalk watching the boats or dine in one of the many well-known restaurants. There is also a casino, a health club, a cinema and a Bowlplex - almost more than you can fit in to one stay!
Heading east along the undercliff path you’ll come first to Ovingdean Cafe and Beach where freshly baked cakes can be enjoyed on the sand as the children play in the rock pools. Fish & chips can be found further along the coast in Rottingdean where village pubs and antique emporiums are just a minute inland on the High Street.
Kemp Town Beach is far quieter than Central Brighton, lining Madeira Drive which hosts weekend events - from car rallies to marathons. Grab some fish & chips from below the arches, take a seat on the pebbles (they are more comfortable than you think), and watch the world go by for a truly authentic Brighton experience!
